Chieftains Catch Up & Curry Night

November 10, 2017

The last three months have flown by and I am conscious that the Committee have not updated the Club recently. In part, this is due to the amount of work that we have had to handle since the start of the season, the launch of Currie Chieftains and the incorporation of the Club, all against the very sad backdrop of losing Greco.

Despite this tragedy, the launch was a great success raising circa £15k towards the cost of the Club. The junior section both mini, midi have raised significant funds, and their kit is on order whilst both the first and second teams have new kit, which I am told is very popular. Certainly, there are increasing numbers of members sporting the new attire, which is very pleasing. Our thanks to GPE Team Sports and Mizuno for their support.

The branding is nearly there. Our new Website is at an advanced stage of development and new signs at the Club have helped to drive home the new branding. I have heard very positive comments both internally and externally regarding the launch of Currie Chieftains and I would like to thank again Mark Flett and Gordon Sayers at Scooter Digital for their invaluable work.

On the playing front, we continue to punch above our weight. The first team enter the Autumn International break lying second with 7 wins out of 10 whilst Chieftains A are moving inexorably up the table and the Mighty Threes continue to enjoy rugby with a wonderful mix of young and old. Please continue to support the Club whenever you can.

The youth section has its highs and lows. There is no doubt that the SRU Conference system, which leads to a conflict between the interests of the schools an Clubs have set us back at Midi level. However, under the guidance of Brian Porteous, Michael Plumb, Scott Gammie and the Youth Committee we are rebuilding and every effort is being made to increase the number of boys and girls playing rugby.

On that note, Fergus Scott has been fantastic as Youth Development Officer and the signs are evident that his work is beginning to have a very positive effect.

There are plenty of events to look forward to and details will be published under a separate cover. However, one particular event I would like to draw to your attention is the Chieftains Curry Night on 1st December in the Club. The format is straightforward, A few beers and the opportunity to quiz the Committee on any concerns, issues or problems within the Club; an opportunity for Phil and I to update you on the progress to date, followed by a good curry and the Glasgow v Cardiff Blues match on the big screen. All are welcome and I hope you can come.

Curry will be £5, To Confirm you would like Food on the night please email clubhouse@curriechieftains.org
