So Near And Yet So Far

After an excellent, if narrow, 6-11 points win over England in the first round of this season’s 6 Nations Championship, the story for Scotland has been one of so near and yet so far. The 24-25 points loss to Wales was tough to take, and the 24-27 points loss to Ireland seemed worse, because it felt inevitable and to a degree was self-inflicted. The coming weekend’s match against Italy at Murrayfield thus presents an important opportunity for Scotland to revive its season before the facing the difficult challenge of meeting France in the re-arranged and final match in this year’s 6N competition.

However, for one Scottish player the season has not been without its rewards. David Cherry, former Currie player has emerged as an important member of the Scotland squad, coming off the bench again on Saturday to add further to his tally of caps. Let us hope he joins the fray earlier next Saturday, because he is awesome as a ball carrier when the game opens up.

For Currie members, who may not have seen it, there was a very worthwhile player profile earlier this month in Talking Rugby Union (https://www.talkingrugbyunion.co.uk/-dave-is-tough-and-has-a-great-attitude-cherry-puts-in-hard-yards-to-get-to-the-top/29235.htm) in which Ally Donaldson commented on Dave’s period at Currie. It is worth a read!
